Condolences from Fred’s Fellow Students of Tsinghua University

Hydraulic Engineering Class of 1983

Dear Fred and family,

We were so shocked and saddened at the news of Fanping’s premature passing on October 5 in Los Angeles after battling with cancer for more than a year. We, Fred’s fellow students of class 1983 of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University, extend our heartfelt sympathy. 

Some of us were fortunate to have worked with Fanping; others had become personal friends with her. They will be ever thankful for having had the opportunity to know her. The majority of us didn’t know her, but through Fred and those who knew her, we knew that Fanping and Fred had a strong and loving relationship. And Fanping was such a kind and companionate person who did so much for others. Fanping was a true inspiration to all those who knew her.

One of Fanping’s close friends, Ms. Du Lihui, remembers seeing your family picture taken at Karen’s commencement at Berkeley this past May and shared on WeChat. Ms. Du and Fanping promised each other to chat on the phone not too far in the future……

Although Fanping is no longer with us in body, but she will always be here in spirit for us.
